Tools & trail essentials

Practical kit that earns its place

MTB and e-MTB tools, maintenance products and ride-saving essentials selected for real workshop use and dependable trailside repairs.

The best kit is not the biggest kit. It covers the problems you can realistically fix, suits the components on your bike and remains compact enough to carry every ride.

Build a useful kit

What deserves space in your pack

Choose tools around the bike, the ride and the repairs that can safely get you moving again—not simply the highest function count.

01

Multi-tool coverage

Check the hex and Torx sizes used on your bike. A chain tool can be valuable, but only when paired with the correct spare quick link.

02

Tubeless repair

Carry a plug solution for smaller punctures and a tube for damage that will not seal. Make sure the tube and valve suit your wheel and rim.

03

Inflation

A compact pump offers repeat use; CO₂ is fast and compact but finite. Choose cartridges and an inflator suitable for high-volume MTB tyres.

04

Clean & lubricate

Use bike-specific cleaners and the correct lubricant sparingly. Keep brake cleaners, degreasers and lubricants away from surfaces they can contaminate.

Carry with purpose

A trail kit should solve problems, not create weight

For most rides, prioritise puncture repair, inflation, the fasteners actually fitted to your bike and a way to deal with a damaged chain. Longer or more remote rides justify greater redundancy.

Tools & trail-kit FAQs

What should I carry on a normal MTB ride?

A suitable multi-tool, tubeless repair, inflation, a spare tube, tyre lever and the correct spare quick link form a sensible baseline. Adjust it for the bike, distance, terrain and conditions.

How do I choose between MTB multi-tools?

Check the tool includes the hex and Torx sizes used on your bike. Then decide whether you need a chain tool, tyre-plug storage or other functions. More functions are only useful when they match your equipment.

Is CO₂ enough for tubeless repairs?

CO₂ is quick and compact but each cartridge is single-use. Carry enough capacity for your tyre size and consider a compact pump for repeat inflation or longer rides.

Do I still need a spare tube when running tubeless?

Yes. A tube can get you home when a puncture is too large to plug, a tyre bead is damaged or the tubeless system cannot be resealed trailside.

Can I use ordinary degreaser or lubricant on my bike?

Bike-specific products are the safer choice. Strong cleaners or misplaced lubricant can damage finishes, remove necessary grease or contaminate brake pads and rotors.

Can Torque help me build a compact trail kit?

Yes. Tell us the bike, typical rides and what you already carry. We can help check tool coverage, puncture repair, inflation and bike-specific spares.
